In the spirit of giving, St. Francis Mission staff met with Toys for Tots Native American Program Coordinator Peter C. Tagni, Lieutenant Colonel, USMCR (Ret) and planning begin to deliver over three thousand toys to the Rosebud Reservation. Through this partnership there was an agreement to distribute toys to the children of the Rosebud Reservation just when they needed help the most during a pandemic. Advancement Director William Long IV and Assistant Director Caroline DeCory accepted the task of coordinating the effort. Through collaborative efforts with community presidents and officers in each community throughout the Reservation this mission was accomplished. Daily, toys were sorted, packed and loaded into a 26ft Uhaul trailer that traveled across the Rosebud covering over 700 miles delivering toys to 20 communities in eight days! We appreciate the kind reception we received from community members. Many people shared they were struggling to acquire gifts for their young relatives due to the challenges caused by the pandemic. Working with the Toys for Tots Organization went very smoothly and we were thankful for their outreach and concern for the children of our communities. We at the Mission are grateful to contribute to this great cause.
Thank you to St. Francis Mission employees, RST Volunteer Fire Department, MMIW Teen Shelter Program and all the local volunteers who helped.
