Fr. Maurice Sands visits St. Charles Parish
The St. Francis Mission and St. Charles Parish were pleased to have Fr. Maurice Sands, Executive Director of the Black and Indian Missions celebrate Mass on September 23, 2018. He is a full-blooded Native American belonging to the Ojibway, Ottawa, and Potawatomi tribes, and grew up on Walpole Island (Bkejwanong First Nation) which is located in the St. Clair River one hour north of Detroit, Michigan.
This was Fr. Sand’s first visit to the Rosebud! Ben and Jenny Black Bear had the privilege of meeting Fr. Sands at the Convocation of Catholic leaders in July 2017, in Washington, DC this past February, and at the Tekakwitha Conference in Tacoma, WA in July. He has been very supportive of the St. Francis Mission, of Ben and Jenny and their work with the St. Francis Mission and the SFM Youth group. We were honored to have him celebrate Mass and meet some of our people here on the Rosebud! The SFM Youth group families and Parishioners had a dinner in honor of Fr. Sands visit after Mass on September 23, 2018. The youth were able to visit with Fr. Sands afterwards. We look forward to his next visit and hope it will be a longer one!
