Caption:This is a photograph taken during the commemorative Liturgy held for Fr. Buechel. Martin Löwenstein, S.J., Catholic chaplain at the University of Frankfurt-on-the-Main, presided and preached a sermon on Fr. Buechel's life. The current pastor of the Church is on the far left and Fr. Bucko, S.J. representing the Jesuits of the United States and the Lakota Missions is second from right.

Caption:Mr. Wilhelm Ritz, director of the Geisa Musuem, speaks during the opening of the exhibit commemorating Fr. Buechel. The name of the exhibit was "Wanbli Sapa (Schwarzer Adler)" - der Indianerpater aus der Rhoen. Wanbli Sapa is Fr. Buechel’s Lakota name, Black Eagle. The rest of the title translastes: The Indian Father from the Rhoen. The exhibit opened on October 31, 2004. The Rhoen refers to the Rhoen Mountains in central Germany where both Schleid and Geisa are located.

Caption:These beaded and painted objects were made by German hobbiests and loned to the museum at Geis for the exhibit as the msueum did not have the needed funding toship, insure and adequately protect ethnographic objects actually collected by Fr. Buechel which remain in St. Francis, South Dakota.

Caption:This display case in the Geise museum contains Lakota artifacts, books authored by and about Fr. Buechel, and two photographs of him (see images 101 and 203, 503a 504). The War Bonnet and beaded moccasisns were acquired by his nephew Emil Büchel (see image215) who lived in Wisconsin with his family for several years, returning to Germany in 1929 and bringing along the artifacts.

Caption:The Mid-American Arts Aliance under the guidance of Jim Alinder and David Smith concieved of this touring exhibt based on three artists: John Anderson, Eugene Buechel, S.J. and Don Doll, S.J. 40 of Fr. Buechel's photographs were exhibited and then printed in this exhibition catalogue which was published in 1976.
