Day 1

Retreatants will arrive in St. Francis between 3:00-5:00 p.m. to check in and get settled into their rooms. The retreat will begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner, and will be followed by introductions, a presentation, and a prayer to wrap-up the night around 8:00 p.m.

Day 2

We will begin the day with a nice breakfast followed by a day full of presentations by our Program Directors. Throughout the day, you will get a chance to tour the Mission grounds, visit the Buechel Memorial Lakota Museum, and interact with staff and fellow supporters of the Mission. Breaks will be interspersed throughout the day, which ends around 8:30 p.m.

Day 3

More presentations and exploring today! If weather permits, we will enjoy a scenic drive down to the community of Spring Creek for a cookout by the Little White River. A Vigil Mass will be celebrated to conclude the retreat. After dinner, we will head back to the guest houses for an evening social.

Travel

St. Francis Mission will provide for all transportation services to and from the Mission starting from the Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP) for all retreat participants who would like to use this option. Please share your flight itinerary when you RSVP with Cindy at 605.718.7912 or send to stewardship@sfmission.net. If you plan to drive yourself, please refer to the directions below for maps and detailed instructions.

For your consideration

  • Due to the long travel times/distances, we recommend that you fill up on fuel before you depart for SFM and when you exit the interstate. Gas stations are few and far between on the roads to and from St. Francis.
  • We wish we could tell you to expect dry, sunshiney days, but the weather is very unpredictable out here. We’ve seen rain, sun, and even snow on these retreats, so please look at the weather before you come visit so you can pack appropriately for the weather. (Weather.com–>St. Francis zip code is 57572)
  • If you plan on bringing a cell phone on your journey, please know that cell service throughout South Dakota, but especially on the Rosebud Reservation, is much like the weather.
