“He took him down, wrapped him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that had be hewn out of the rock.”

On Holy Saturday we remember Jesus’ body lying lifeless in the tomb. Mass is not said until Easter Vigil.

The Easter Vigil begins in the darkness that follows Jesus’ death. Light i kindled and the Easter candle is brought forth, lighting other fires until the church is filled with light. Readings recall the who of salvation history, and the word “Alleluia,” banished throughout Lent, is head again for the first time. On this night, catechumens–those becoming Catholic–are welcomed into the Church via the sacraments of initiation. The Easter Vigil is the most important and solemn Mass of the year.

Mass will be held at 9 p.m. at St. Charles.

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

On Good Friday, Jesus dies for our sins. The Church is stripped bare, and Mass is not celebrated until the Easter Vigil. Good Friday is a day of fasting.

At the Celebration of the Passion of our Lord, we read the Passion and venerate the Cross.

“This is the blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.”

The Mass of the Lord’s Supper commemorates the Last Supper Jesus shared with his Apostles when the Eucharist and priesthood were given to the Church. The priest washes the feet of 12 people to recall Jesus doing the same for his Apostles. Mass ends in silence as we observe the arrest of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane.

Mass will take place at St. Bridget’s at 5:30 p.m. with Adoration until 10 p.m.

Mass will also take place at 7:30 p.m. at St. Charles.
